Description: Amritsar/New Delhi, April 13(ANI): Thousands of devotees thronged the Golden Temple in Amritsar as festivities began for the colourful harvest festival of Baisakhi. A long queue of devotees waited patiently to pay respect at the most sacred shrine, while several others bathed in the holy pond to cleanse and purify their souls. Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal also visited the temple with his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Baisakhi holds special significance for Sikhs as this day also marks the birth anniversary of the Khalsa Panth or the Sikh order. Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru established the Panth in 1699 of Sikhs, on this day. Description: Sirmour, April 1 (ANI): Paonta Sahib is a small beautiful town located in the southern part of Sirmour District in northern Himachal Pradesh state. It is located at the foothills of the Himalayan range, and on the banks of the River Yamuna. The town is known for promoting amity between different communities. The famous Paonta Sahib Gurudwara presents a perfect example of this fact. Here, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs comes to pray with equal devotion in their hearts. Dedicated to Guru Gobind Singhji, the tenth guru of the Sikhs, this revered site is where he wrote the Dasam Granth, and draws devotees in huge numbers. The name 'Paonta' meaning 'Feet' best justifies the importance of this place. Legend has it that this was the site where Guru Gobind Singh dismounted from his horse and placed his feet for the first time, thereby rendering this place holy. Views:408 |
