Description: New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): Shashi Kant Sharma on Thursday took oath as the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India succeeding Vinod Rai, who demitted the office on Wednesday after an eventful five-and-a-half years. President Pranab Mukherjee administered the oath of office to Sharma at a function held at the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan. Sharma, a 1976-batch Bihar cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was the country's defence secretary prior to taking over as CAG. He will serve the office till September 24, 2017. Description: Jalandhar, May 21 (ANI): Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai, who is on a three-day visit to India, will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday in order to ask for more military assistance from India for Afghanistan. Karzai, who arrived in Punjab on Monday, was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree, Honoris Causa from President Pranab Mukherjee in the Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar. Addressing the students and dignitaries, Karzai expressed his gratitude for India's assistance in uplifting educational standards in the country. Karzai is likely to discuss potential arms deals with Indian officials at a time when tensions are running high on Afghanistan's disputed border with Pakistan. Views:361 |
