Description: Dhaka, May 25 (ANI): Bangladesh academician, Mohammed Abdul Mannan has said that the war crime trials are a blow to the ideology of the country's biggest Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat, an Islamist ally of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) that opposed independence from Pakistan, denies accusations that some of its leaders committed murder, rape and torture during the conflict. Mannan, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the European University of Bangladesh, said that the trial is a blow to the Jamaat's agenda. Nasheed is charged with ordering the military to unconstitutionally detain the Chief Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Mohamed. Nasheed had earlier said that it is a politically motivated case designed to ensure he can't contest the September Presidential polls. Nasheed had evaded the previous two arrest warrants by seeking diplomatic shelter in the Indian Mission. He had taken shelter in the Indian Mission on February 13 to evade arrest.
