Description: Vishakhapatnam, May 17, (ANI): Thousands of devotees throng to see the Hindu deity in southern India after the priests of the temple removed the sandal paste from the idol. The devotees turned up in large numbers for the colourful 'Nijarupa Darshanam,' during which they got a glimpse of Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. According to the tradition, the idol is covered with layers of sandalwood paste throughout the year and only on the occasion of the Hindu festival of Akshay Tritiya, the layers are removed and the idol is worshiped. It was ordained that the idol be covered with sandalwood paste so as to reduce the intensity of the Lord's fiery nature. This year on Akshay Tritiya, thousands of devotees turned up at the temple for the Nijarupa Darshanam where they prayed and sought salvation. The members of the local royal family visit the temple and after worshiping the idol, the temple is thrown open to the general public. | Holy Dip | |
|
|
Description: Uttar Pradesh, May 17, (ANI): Devotees took holy dip in northern India on the occasion of the auspicious day when people began new ventures and purchased gold as well. Hindu devotees thronged to the banks of the river Ganges on the occasion of the Hindu festival of Akshay Tritiya in the holy city of Varanasi in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state and took holy dip. Apart from taking a dip in the river, the devotees also performed religious rituals as they hoped to fulfill their wishes. Akshaya Tritiya, the third day of the lunar fortnight of 'Vaishakh' - the second month according to Hindu calendar, is considered one of the foremost sacred days of the year. The word Akshaya means, 'which never diminishes'. Hence it prompts people to buy valuables particularly gold. People also turned up on the riverbank of the river Ganges in large numbers in the state's Allahabad city. Allahabad being at the confluence of the Indian sacred rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the invisible Saraswati, derives more importance on the occasion because of a sacred 'Akshayvat' tree. Views:611 |
