Description: New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): The ICC on Thursday withdrew Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf from the Champions Trophy, to be played next month, in wake of media reports that he was under investigation by Mumbai Police in the spot fixing case. According to a statement issued by ICC, it took the desicion of the umpire's withdrawal since it believes it was in the best interest of Rauf as well as sports. It is unclear why Rauf is being allegedly probed in the spot-fixing case and the ICC chose not to comment any further on the matter. Rauf is likely to be summoned by Mumbai police for questioning. According to reports, Rauf was in regular touch with Vindu Dara Singh and had received various gifts from the bookies. Views:17 |

Description: New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): Shashi Kant Sharma on Thursday took oath as the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India succeeding Vinod Rai, who demitted the office on Wednesday after an eventful five-and-a-half years. President Pranab Mukherjee administered the oath of office to Sharma at a function held at the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan. Sharma, a 1976-batch Bihar cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was the country's defence secretary prior to taking over as CAG. He will serve the office till September 24, 2017. Description: New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday stated that the group of ministers set up to look at ways to secure more autonomy for the CBI had identified issues that would ensure greater independence for the federal probing agency. Law minister Kapil Sibal told reporters that V Narayanasamy briefed his colleagues on the provisions of the Delhi Police Establishment Act and the Lokpal Bill. The government had set up the Group of Ministers (GoM), headed by Chidambaram, after the Supreme Court had reprimanded it over the lack of autonomy to the CBI while hearing the coal scam report which was altered at the behest of the government. CBI Director Ranjit Sinha, who was one of the special invitees to the meeting, did not attend it. Views:12 |
