Sikh armymen, a major pillar of country's security
Description : Punjab, February 08: The bold, the brave and the fearless! Sikhs have a long history of military service. Whether in the British Indian Army or the post independence Indian Army, they have had a very notable representation. In 1862, Punjabi infantry units made up roughly 20 per cent of the Indian forces. And by 1914, almost half of the Indian military was drawn from Punjab. Not surprisingly, Sikhs have continued to distinguish themselves militarily since the world wars, particularly in the 1965 and 1971 India Pakistan Wars and the 1999 Kargil conflict.
