Ensuring Email Privacy

Mr Mathew Koshy called me from USA, this morning and suggested how to save the email Privacy of reciepants as Email IDs are being misused at large scale. I am forwarding some relevant correspondance in this connection.

You would agree that in this Global World, the information Explosion is nothing but sponsored and misinformation campaign. Net has provided us a space for alternative media. In fact we socil activists worldwide use Email to post information. The network is created with chain emails of friends.
here lies the unexpected and unwanted danger as you have rightly pointed out that Email Privacy is violated so often and email IDs misused.
I am also victimised and my gmail ID: palashchandrabiswas, has been hijacked. I have alredy lodged a complaint with Kolkata Police cyber cell.I have informed all the friends worldwide that the mentioned hijacked ID is no more happens to be my ID.
I request all the friends that in case , you get any mail from that email ID, pl forward that to my new gmail account: palashbiswaskl@gmail.com, so that we may trace out the hackers and inform the authorities to take action.
More over, as we have to use the NET and continue our socil activities as Alternative Media, we have to send mails to all known and unknown friends. But we have to ensure the privacy and freedom of all of them.It is democratic and rightful at the same time.
I am looking to all those friends who know this medium better to provide us with better technique and knowhow to enhance the saftey and security of Email domain.

I am sorry you had this trouble, Mr. Biswas. I had written to VB Rawat suggesting 'Dal Mein Kuch Kala Hai' when I first saw the fraud mail.

I too was a victim of a different kind of e mail crime some years ago. We exposed the fraudster and shamed him publicly - he is yet to recover from it 5 years later. I am glad you went to the police too - that is the only option available to law-abiding citizens.

In addition to that, I propose the following action:

- please ask a friend to write to that address from where the fraudulent message was received, offering to help, and asking for details of how money is to be sent, and to which city.

- I am sure that the response will be swift and am guessing that it will also say 'I am not allowed to receive the money here since I have no passport to show my identity, therefore can you send the money to Mr. so-and-so'.

Ask then for a scan of the person's identity as local Moneygram people are asking for it in India/whichever country this mail will be sent from. You will at least this way know the name of the fraudsters and have a picture to show to the police. You will get more details of those who have hacked into the account.

I have great fun with these people. When I get a Nigeria-style mail in English, I reply in broken French asking if they cannot send me something in French as I am interested, am keen on working with them and know what to do in these matters. Just two lines. Then they go away and take 4 days to send a mail in French. Well, I have the satisfaction of having kept them busy for some days at least!

I received a mail recently from Nigeria, apparently from Mr.B.Raman, retired R"
AW, who was recently prominent in the visual media on the pubication of his book "KAWBOYS" and am copying it below, as I could understand it is a fraud!!
How they got the real e-id of Mr.Raman and addresses from his addressbook to send the circular on his name is a mystery!!
