K Vediyappan, Gummidipoondi Question: Can we safely assume that Arcot Veerasamy's statement indicating that the DMK will contest the next elections on its own is the opinion of Karunanidhi?
Answer: Certainly not. The DMK has not contested a single election alone after 1967. It will not do so in the future as well. Karunanidhi is well aware of his party's Achilles' heel.

Question: What is your take on the transfer of former DMK minister T Kiruttinan's murder case to Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh?
Answer: Witnesses have to travel from Tamil Nadu and come back. So what major difference would it make?

Question: "Corruption and nepotism have increased to unheard of levels. For instance, a vice-chancellor's post is available for a price ranging between Rs.4 and 5 crores," says former VC Ananthakrishnan. Doesn't this state of affairs shock you?
Answer: When a former VC speaks without comprehending the current situation, I am naturally shocked. He is implying that there is a ceiling to corruption at the Rs.5 crore levels. Perhaps such an upper limit would have existed when he made that statement. Since then, the rates have probably risen. Corruption is one sphere where inflation goes beyond its zenith every minute.

Question: Karunanidhi has warned that if Jayalalithaa comes back to power, laws prohibiting religious conversions [through inducements] and ban on further recruitment of government officials will be reintroduced. Comment
Answer: I don't think that anybody can issue a better certificate hailing her administrative abilities.

Question: During the last three years, India is second only to Iraq in fatalities due to violent extremism, says an anti-terrorist body. Comment
Answer: Before three years, we were the first! That is the obvious reason for our government stressing on the need to abrogate anti-terrorist laws!

Question: What is the permanent feature in [a] politics and [b] politicians' lives?
Answer: Corruption is a permanent feature of politics. And not being divested of ill-gotten wealth derived out of it no matter how many cases are filed against him/her is an aspect of a politician's life.

Question: Do you think that the central government's tribulations are over?
Answer: On the contrary, I think that they will increase in the near future because the leftists were forced to take a step backwards in the recent past. Now they will assault the government with more vigour.
Question: There is nobody left to praise the performance of Union [Health] Minister Dr Anbumoni in Tamil Nadu, says Dr Ramadoss. Comment
Answer: Doesn't PMK exist in Tamil Nadu? Has its strength depleted to this extent?

Question: Did you notice that the Chennai Municipal Corporation has failed to clear the city's waste properly?

Question: [Bollywood] actor [Salman Khan] was unfortunately not born as Lord Ram. Had he, he could have asked as to why he was being punished for killing a deer when the mythical god was hailed for doing the same thing, Karunanidhi has been quoted as saying. Comment
Answer: Frankly I do not understand Karunanidhi's argument. How could Ram have said he should be treated differently than himself?
Be that as may be, even if one is to assume that Karunanidhi's argument that Salman is being hounded needlessly when Lord Ram who did the same thing went unpunished is wrong.
Ram had to suffer immensely chasing and killing the deer [which was a demon in disguise]. The epic hero ended up looking far and wide for his kidnapped wife, was forced to kill Vali for the sake of Sugreeva, build a causeway across the sea and finally wage a long battle with Ravana in an attempt to regain his consort. If one is to compare all this to the punishment meted out to Salman, the actor's suffering seems like a picnic. This is my reaction to Karunanidhi's statement.
Else, there is no change in my earlier opinion that Khan has been treated too harshly for killing a black buck.

Question: "There should be a permanent fund to help the next kin of terrorist violence," Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has been quoted as saying. Comment
Answer: It is indeed an optimistic way of looking at things. Now that the PM himself has implied that terrorism is permanent, what else is there to say?
P Balaji Ganesh, Kovilampoondi
Question: What is your reaction to Congress MLA Polur Varadan's statement that his party has been pledged to the DMK for the sake of power [at the Centre]?
Answer: The legislator's statement is misleading because he is implying to his party workers that the Congress can be retrieved after the coalition experiment. [The harsh reality] is that the TN chapter of the Congress has already been sold to the DMK.

Question: "I do not do anything expecting gratitude," Karunanidhi has been quoted as saying. Comment
Answer: Neither Dayanidhi Maran, nor Stalin, Azhagiri and Kanimozhi have expressed even a word of thanks to whatever Karunanidhi's labours achieved for them. If matters proceed in this fashion, the CM may have to go on expressing his anguish for all time to come.
